Just as an aside WG, you're not getting another dime out of me until subs are excluded from the general server population into their own gameplay mode. They haven't because they know their player base would seal club lower tier players and make the game unplayable for them. If they did fit the gameplay, WG would put submarines in the time period/tiers where they existed. The fact that submarines are only after tier 6 is proof submarines don't belong in the game, and that WG knows this. 2-3 min submerged time is ridiculously unrealistic. Submarines could stay submerged for hours, not minutes. I know of exactly one U-boat class that could do 21kts submerged. Early war subs had a top speed submerged between 6-8 kts, and surfaced speed around 20kts. Late war submarines (1943 or so for Germany) could charge batteries while submerged at snorkel depth. Period torpedoes could be set to run a search pattern at a specified depth, or run in a straight line until they ran out of fuel or their batteries died. ![]() Homing torpedoes were a late war invention, sonar from own ship did not guide torpedoes to their targets until much, much later than the time period of the game. WG have chosen the latter, as the former would break the game. I have to say, that as I originally predicted in the post that got me into the Alpha test (edit: its been removed for some reason?), submarines would either be ridiculously overpowered or completely unrealistic. ![]() I've played a few battles in submarines, and in surface ships with submarines in battle.
